Switching broadband provider is easy, but switch broadband to which provider. With their huge marketing budgets it’s easy to just switch to BT, Vodafone, TalkTalk, Plusnet and Sky but that would be too easy.
For me, I would rather explore the smaller broadband providers that are providing the UKs broadband. Being smaller, like in many industries, these smaller broadband providers usually have to work harder to get your custom and even harder to make sure you’ll want to stay with them.
So, let’s take a look at the challenger broadband providers. My top pick is Direct Save Telecom who make that dreaded support call to a call centre not so traumatic. I’ve heard so many horror stories from people desperate for support from their big brand broadband provider but having to talk to someone in Pune or Manila or some other offshore call centre, sometimes only getting resolved after many calls and an escalation to a UK back up. I explain further below.
Full fibre superfast broadband from only £24.95 per month. Long established and provides broadband services across all Networks. Watford based.
Another value broadband provider, iTalk, based in Brighton. 220Mb Full Fibre broadband from £39.99 per month.
Your Co-op Full Fibre Broadband (part of The Midcounties Co-operative) is the only UK Co-op utilities provider offering home broadband. 12 and 24 month broadband agreements
Pop Telecom have full fibre broadband plans from only £34.50 per month. 24 month agreements. Essex based.
A home with good reliable broadband is a much happier home. The best value home broadband deals are not necessarily the cheapest broadband deal, you'll need a superfast broadband connection that works, and if something is not right with your broadband package deal, you will need to easily speak to someone that can help you fix it before the family gets on your back.
Nowadays, a reliable fast fibre broadband connection is the norm. When something is wrong, being able to speak to a broadband technical support team is a must. I have been a Direct Save Telecom customer for many years and have found their UK based support knowledgeable on the rare occasion that I've needed to call them.
For instance, where you clearly have a WiFi issue with your broadband the advisor may insist on you getting on your knees to unscrew the socket plate and plug in your internet router in to the BT test socket - quite impractical for many, especially here in bungalow city with our bungalow knees when all is needed is for the WiFi button to be pressed on the router. That’s not for me. My experience with Direct Save Telecom is that they listen whilst logging in to your router and then fix the issue within minutes.
I have always championed the underdog. It probably started when I first started supporting Watford FC in the early seventies when they were in the old third and fourth divisions. Even now my team, Watford FC, punch above their weight moving between the Championship and Premier League. They’re my team and I’ll support them no matter that they’re a minnow compared to Manchester City.
Similarly, I will go to our local farm shop for vegetables and salad items rather than going to the big supermarkets. I might pay a little bit more but it tastes better and I like supporting the smaller business.
Probably explains why I prefer to be with a non big brand broadband provider.
We cover the UK Governments drive towards a Gigabit Nation and aims for UK nationwide Full Fibre coverage of 99% by 2030 and 85% by the end of 2025.
